At least 1,008 people in South Florida have died of the new coronavirus, the state reported Tuesday, an increase of 22 over the previous 24 hours. The region leads the state in the number of cases. As of Tuesday, Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties have had 24,451 cases, 513 more than the day before.
