Southside Church

Throughout the Gospel of John, Jesus made seven unforgettable statements beginning with the words, “I Am.” Each statement reveals more and more of His identity and invites us to trust Him with every part of our lives. In "I Can’t Get No Satisfaction" from our “Voices: I Am” series, we look at the feeding of the 5,000 and Jesus' declaration that He is the Bread of Life.

We live in a culture with more than almost any generation before us, yet we can’t seem to get enough. The problem isn't that we're hungry—it's what we're trying to feed our hunger with. Jesus should be our first response, not our last resort, because the deepest hunger of your life can only be satisfied by Him!

1 After this, Jesus crossed the Sea of Galilee.

5 Therefore, when Jesus looked up and noticed a huge crowd coming toward Him, He asked Philip, “Where will we buy bread so these people can eat?”

6 He asked this to test him, for He Himself knew what He was going to do.

9 “There’s a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish—but what are they for so many?”

11 Then Jesus took the loaves, and after giving thanks He distributed them to those who were seated—so also with the fish, as much as they wanted.

13 So they collected them and filled 12 baskets with the pieces from the five barley loaves that were left over by those who had eaten.

32 Jesus said to them, “I assure you: Moses didn’t give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the real bread from heaven.

33 For the bread of God is the One who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

34 Then they said, “Sir, give us this bread always!”

35 “I am the bread of life,” Jesus told them. “No one who comes to Me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in Me will ever be thirsty again.”

32 And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.

5:1 Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children.

2 And walk in love, as the Messiah also loved us and gave Himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.

Is God calling you to move, but you're waiting for the whole map?
