In this episode, Amanda interviews Dr. Siobhan Hearne about her fascinating research (which is clearly still relevant as people’s bodies are still being regulated today) on venereal diseases and how this was policed. We go through treatments, the relationships between medical personnel and police, and the reasons why Latvia had such high VD rates. We also discuss and shed light on the later Soviet period by focusing on the Brezhnev era. This article further examines how the Soviet state found new methods of regulating and intervening in the lives of Soviet citizens for regulate their behaviour.
