In the parable of the sower, Jesus describes the different responses to His teaching ministry and why these different reactions exist. The parable is a mirror: it shows people where they stand in reference to the Word of the Kingdom (gospel).

Big Idea: Our response to the Gospel does not depend on the messenger or the message but on the condition of our hearts.

  1. The Compacted Heart: Hears BUT does not Understand (3-4; 19)
  • The Circumstantial Heart: Hears BUT does not Endure (5-6; 20-21)
  • The Compromised Heart: Hears BUT does not Bear Fruit (7; 22)
