Soy, Evictions and Seed Sovereignty in Paraguay

Listen Later

Denne podcastepisode er på engelsk.

In this podcast, we talk about the violent consequences the industrial meat production in Denmark and in the EU has in the South American country Paraguay. Paraguay is the worlds’ fourth biggest soy exporter, mainly for animal feed to the meat industry in the EU and the US. The soy industry is expanding, and the production causes huge problems of deforestation, pollution of water and soil and forced displacement of peasant and indigenous communities. To learn more about how the soy production affect people and the environment in Paraguay, we talk to Angel Tuninetti from the environmental organization Heñói in Paraguay. He explains how the expansion of the soy industry happens through land grabbing and forced displacements of neighboring communities, but also how the Paraguayan peasants have organized to resist and claim their right to land and to preserve their indigenous seeds. We also talk to Blanca Jara from the peasant community Cristo Rey, who was evicted from their land.
