What is the church actually for?

In the first message of our new series Ecclesia: The Church Can Change the World, Chris Ball explores the church Jesus is building—and why it was never meant to become a clubhouse focused primarily on taking care of itself.

The Greek word Ecclesia means “those who are called out.” Jesus intentionally used this word to describe His followers, pointing toward a people who are called out of ordinary life to participate in the mission and government of God's Kingdom.

The mission came first. The church came as the family and vehicle through which that mission would be carried out.

Jesus' command was clear: go and make disciples of all nations.

In this message, Chris walks through the difference between a church that exists primarily for itself and a church built around the mission of God. Looking at the examples of Jerusalem, Emmaus, and especially Antioch, we discover what it looks like for a church to become a rescue station rather than a clubhouse.

What if generosity isn't primarily about money—but about identity?

In the final message of the Covenant Family series, we look at why God calls us to live generously and what generosity reveals about who we are as sons and daughters of God.

God doesn't need our money, time, gifts, or resources. He already owns it all. So why does He invite us to become a generous people?

In this message, we explore three foundational truths:

1. The mandate of God on earth requires generosity. The mission of making disciples and taking the gospel to the nations requires people who are willing to go, send, and resource the mission.
2. Your generosity writes you into the story of God. Generosity isn't measured simply by the size of the gift. God is looking at the heart behind it. From the widow's two small coins to the many acts of generosity that helped establish Sozo Kyle, we see how ordinary acts of obedience can become part of a much bigger story.
3. The evidence of Kingdom identity is generosity. Kingdom generosity flows from knowing who we are in God. Instead of living from scarcity and asking, “Can I afford it?” we begin to ask, “What do I have the privilege to do?”

Generosity ultimately isn't just about money. It's about how we use our time, words, influence, resources, favor, and gifts to build up the people around us.

Favor that ends with us is stagnant. Favor is meant to flow through us.

What if the table is one of God's most powerful tools for reaching people?

Throughout the Gospels, meals are everywhere. Jesus talks about feasts and banquets, but more importantly, He actually sat down and ate with people—including people others had rejected.

That invitation creates space for something powerful to happen.

Everyone has a shepherd. The question is: Who is leading your life?
