(1:00:58) From Boy Scout to CCEMT-P and nationally known EMS educator Bob Page shares a lot of cool info for the newbie. Learn which part of your stethoscope to use for a BP. What the ATLS says about the relationship between radial pulse and BP is. A cool gadget you can get to help you learn breath and heart sounds.
In 1993, years before EMS services carried 12 Lead ECGs, Dr Zalenski wrote a paper about how 15 Lead was 23% more sensitive than at 12 Lead, which was only 50% sensitive. Bob literally wrote the book on 12-Lead ECG for Acute and Critical Care Providers and we talk about 15 lead alot in very powerful ways.
Our podcast teaches you interesting and useful stuff on a regular basis, but in this episode you can literally learn something that can save someone’s life.
Timothy Clemans: What would you change to EMS education?
Dandude: What are some “must knows” for EMS about stethoscopy? What the hell is a 15 lead EKG? How do you feel about EMS reading and interpitating 12 leads, (or 15)?
Gerald Byrnes: Got a EMT-B in New Mexico over the summer, then moved to Tempe, Arizona. In addition to learning a slightly wider SOP in NM than National Registry standard he also started learning to read 12-lead. people in AZ seem startled when they learn he’s learning to read 12-leads. Am I going a bit overboard and becoming “that guy” or is it just a bit of an attitude difference between states with different Basic Scopes of Practice? What are good resources for practice assements,12-lead and stethoscopy since I have no patients?
