Paul Hoover is on a mission: to live on the cutting edge of technology and steer human-computer interaction toward a preferred future.
Since 2003, Paul has been at the forefront of innovative computing technologies. He started his journey with pen computing in the Tablet PC group at Microsoft, where he honed his skills in interaction design through prototyping and creating pen interfaces for Windows. He then moved to the original Surface team, mastering tangible computing and massive multitouch interaction under industry leaders like Daniel Wigdor and August de los Reyes.
Paul's career took a significant turn at Artefact in 2010, where he explored gestural interaction and emerging input paradigms. His work included designing interfaces for Intuitive Surgical's minimally invasive surgical robots, observing real surgeries to perfect the surgeon interface. This unique experience laid the groundwork for his contributions to mixed reality with the Magic Leap UX team, where he aimed to prevent isolated digital realities and pitched the concept for Storyboard VR, a VR ideation tool.
At Oculus, Paul initially focused on designing AR communication interfaces and later transitioned to building AR games. After his tenure at Oculus was cut short in November 2022, Paul took on the role of heading up design at ShapesXR, where he is dedicated to accelerating the XR industry.
