There is a significant downside to not speaking up when you should. Here are just a few of the less-than-favorable side-effects of not being able to communicate with confidence and deliver a clear message. There is, unfortunately, no end to the number of people that will take advantage of you if you let them. This is definitely something that can happen if you don't feel comfortable speaking up for yourself. Your friends, family members, and coworkers may take advantage of this, even if they do it unconsciously. You become the person that's always there to lend a favor. The responsibilities and dreams you have for yourself get pushed aside because you've never learned how to say no. Then there are those despicable individuals who will intentionally take advantage of you. When you speak up, they drown you out. They talk to others about you in a negative way. Behind your back, these people will knock you down in any way they can. That way, if you decide to stand up for yourself, your message is a watered-down version of what it should be.This is one of the most negative side-effects of never developing your voice. You're either heard and ignored, or you don't speak up at all. This unconsciously becomes a habit, and you spend your life never having your important needs and issues addressed. You will punish your pocketbook if you never learn to speak with confidence and clarity. Confident people are regarded highly by their bosses and the companies they work for. It just makes sense. Who would you rather have working for you? Would you promote someone who doesn't say much and never appears to be self-confident or the person who is the polar opposite? People who are perceived as confident and can express that confidence when communicating will always find success in the workplace. The opposite could be your reward if you don't learn to deliver your message with authority and power. You should always feel good about yourself when you speak up. Even if your voice isn't heard, you did what you needed to do. The problem is that if you are constantly ignored when you speak your mind, you might eventually decide to stop talking. Your self-esteem continues to fall because you don't feel like you deserve to be heard. You keep talking, but no one is listening. Perhaps you never talk up in the first place. You don't speak your mind. You might be doing this for several reasons. The eventual result is the same poor self-image that can do much damage. That means you are twice as likely to die early as someone your age with a healthy self-image. Low self-esteem leads to chronic stress and anxiety, two conditions linked to shorter lifespans. This includes every interpersonal relationship you have. Your relationships at home, at work, and with friends and neighbors can all be impacted negatively when your voice isn't heard. If you don't speak up, how can the important people in your life know what you need from them? If you speak up and don't have an effective way of delivering your message, you get the same result.By the way, this doesn't happen just because your needs are not addressed. If you don't know how to communicate effectively and with a degree of authority and believability, others may believe you're ignoring them. This might be the furthest thing from the truth. In the minds of your loved ones, it appears like you don't have time for them and don't care too much about the relationship. Maybe you've tried again and again to get your message acro
