Speaking Clearly With Jesse Schwartzman

Listen Later

Talking is something that a lot of people take for granted. Often, especially when we are younger, we're reprimanded by parents and teachers to "Speak up," "Speak Clearly," or "Don't repeat yourself." For individuals like Jesse Schwartzman, these aren't nearly as easy you'd think they'd be. Jesse describes his stutter, explaining that it can make him feel like he doesn't have air. When he's not focused or overwhelmed, it feels like he is separate from his body. Navigating these feelings, along with the social anxiety that comes with them, we talk about the assumptions that people make about those of us with invisible disabilities. And don't ever tell a person with a stutter to "Take their time!"
