While exploring the reef during a night dive in Fernando de Noronha, I came across this perfectly camouflaged slipper lobster (Scyllaridae), blending effortlessly into the surrounding algae and rock.

Unlike spiny or true lobsters, slipper lobsters have broad, flattened bodies and lack large claws or long antennae. Their shovel-like head and muted coloration make them nearly invisible on the seafloor – unless you’re lucky enough to spot their glowing eyes under a dive light.

Mostly nocturnal and rarely seen during the day, these crustaceans are a real treat for divers who know where to look.
