Different commentators will have different interpretations and I'm not negating any of them. In fact they most likely have better credentials than I. But my interpretation is focused on the spiritual attacks by Satan, the flesh, the eyes, and pride. For example some will focus the helmet of salvation on thought life. I take it to mean more than that since it's called the helmet of SALVATION, so I take it Satan's attacks on our salvation, that we are not good enough, and he is right that's why we have the breastplate of righteousness as it is not our works but dependence on Christ's work, His righteousness.
