How many times have we heard the phrase, “fake it until you make it”?
Maybe that works when we need a little courage to push past nerves.
But what happens when we bring that same mindset into our relationship with God?
In this first episode of The Things We Fake, I share about a season when I knew exactly what to say:
“God is in control.”
“I trust His timing.”
“God has a plan.”
But underneath those words, I was anxious, angry, looking for approval, and trying to control the outcome.
That led me to an uncomfortable question:
Was I actually trusting God… or had I just learned how to sound like I was?
Mark 9:24 gives us one of the most honest prayers in Scripture:
“I believe; help my unbelief.”
The father did not hide his struggle. He brought Jesus what was real.
In this episode, we talk about trust, control, identity, approval, surrender, and the difference between declaring truth in the middle of a struggle and using truth to hide the struggle.
Because Jesus never asked us to perform trust.
He invited us to trust Him.

Sometimes the hardest thing to admit is not that we’re struggling.
It’s that we’ve gotten really good at hiding it.
In this introduction to The Things We Fake, we’re opening a conversation about the subtle ways faith can become performance.
We can say we trust God while still trying to control the outcome.
We can look healed while avoiding the wound.
We can serve from a place that looks surrendered while quietly needing approval.
We can sound confident while wrestling with doubt underneath.
And sometimes we don’t even realize we’re doing it.
This series is not about exposing people.
It’s about letting God expose what is happening inside us so He can bring truth, healing, freedom, and surrender into the places we’ve been trying to manage on our own.
Because Jesus never asked us to pretend our way into transformation.
He invites us to bring Him what is real.
Maybe the greatest threat to spiritual growth isn’t weakness.
Maybe it’s pretending we don’t have any.
