Sports Blinders and #MeToo

Listen Later

The #MeToo movement has brought to the forefront what, for years, was shoved aside or ignored. For many aggressors in sexual harassment or sexual assault cases, the consequences have been more considerable that before. Except that's not exactly the case when it comes to professional athletes.

In this episode of Catalyst, Elizabeth Taylor, an assistant professor in the Sport and Recreation Management Department at Temple University's School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM), talks about why fans often put on "sports blinders" with regard to holding their favorite athletes accountable for their actions. She also details why these "sports blinders" have have caused a lack of momentum in the #MeToo Movement when it comes to professional sports and athletes.
