On permanent sections, STAS has been associated with an increased likelihood of lymph node metastases and aggressive behavior. However, the validity of using STAS diagnosis on frozen section to guide management is controversial. The guests argue that expecting pathologists to diagnose STAS on frozen section and bear responsibility for an aggressive surgical resection is fraught with risk. In their opinion, it is too much, too soon.
