Spring Blooms and Shakes in Lehi: A Day of Excitement

A moderate 3.9 magnitude earthquake struck near Provo early this morning, just after midnight on May 1, 2025. The tremor was felt throughout Wasatch County, approximately 20 miles east of Provo, with reports indicating it had a very shallow depth.[1][2] No major damage has been reported, but many Lehi residents likely felt the gentle rumble while sleeping.

Meanwhile, Lehi's famous Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving Point kicked off today, marking the beginning of a colorful 17-day celebration that will continue through May 17. Visitors can enjoy acres of vibrant tulips in full bloom, perfectly timed for the spring season.[3]

The Lehi City Planning Commission is holding a Work Session this evening from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, where community members can participate in discussions about upcoming developments in the rapidly growing city.[4]

Governor Spencer J. Cox is having a busy day in the region as well. After an early morning earthquake, the governor is attending the Utah Foundation Annual Luncheon at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City at 12:30. Later today, he has scheduled meetings with Brian Steed from Utah State University's Institute for Land, Water, and Air, followed by a meeting with the Utah Office of Tourism to discuss upcoming initiatives.[5]

Just yesterday, Governor Cox visited the Philo Ventures office right here in Lehi, highlighting the city's importance as a technology hub in the state.[5]

For those with allergies, the spring bloom has brought moderate pollen levels today, primarily from tree sources. The air quality remains in the moderate range following overnight rain showers that helped clear some pollutants.

Local high schools are preparing for weekend sporting events, with Lehi High's baseball team coming off a narrow 3-2 victory against Skyridge yesterday afternoon.

As you head out to enjoy the Tulip Festival or attend the Planning Commission meeting today, expect partly cloudy skies with temperatures reaching a comfortable 68 degrees—perfect weather to enjoy all that Lehi has to offer as we begin the month of May.
