This is a message from Spring Session 2021 with JaVon Howse.
We put Spring Session 2.0 together in early 2021 to answer the question, “What did we learn from the past year? What are we leaving behind and what are we taking with us as we seek to live with and become more like Christ?”
Discussion Questions
1. Are you, like JaVon, tired of Netflix? What were some of the ways you used your time over
this past year? Were some of the ways good and healthy? Were any of them not? Be
honest with yourself and others as you talk and reflect.
2. JaVon describes the past year as a storm that we all had to go through together.
Additionally, he pointed out that we have our own family’s, and individual storms
happening simultaneously- this is new territory for most of us. What has this been like for
you? What has helped, and what hasn’t?
3. Using Matthew 4: 1-11 as a reference, JaVon asks an interesting question. “How many of
us, if we were offered the entire year back, would say no because of the growth that you
made in your relationship with Christ?” How would you answer that question? Has it been
a year of growth? Setbacks and hardship? For most of us, it’s been a difficult mix of both.
4. Using Philippians 3:12-14 and a sports analogy, we are challenged to learn from the storms
and losses that we have faced in life. Have you learned any lessons this year that you
want to take with you?
5. As things continue to move forward and return back to normal, JaVon encourages us to
take God with us because “God is the only consistent thing that will always be there for
us.” Do you believe this? How has this past year made it harder or easier for you to
believe that God is always with us? What are some practical ways that we can learn from
the past, move forward with God, and in turn, strengthen our relationship with Jesus and
become more like Him?
Scripture References:
Psalm 57: 1
Matthew 4:1-11
Philippians 3:12-14
