Alan Watts talks a lot about a sort of metaphysical acceptance. This foundation of acceptance is necessary so that we do not get in our own way, and so we become not passive, but willing.
Death is a clear example. The only way to truly enjoy our life now is to accept that death is inevitable. Therefore, I included a quote by Seneca that is about his perspective on a peaceful afterlife.
“If there is any torment in the later state, there must also have been torment in the period before we saw the light of day; yet we never felt conscious of any distress then. I ask you, wouldn’t you say that anyone who took the view that a lamp was worse off when it was put out than it was before it was lit was an utter idiot? We, too, are lit and put out. We suffer in the intervening period, but at either end of it there is deep tranquility.” -Seneca
