[§204] Rev 12:8-9: Lucifer Prevailed Not and Was Cast Out

Listen Later

This podcast explains the signs and symbolism used by John in Revelation 12:8-9 to describe the end of the premortal war in heaven that began in Revelation 12:7. Revelation 12:8 states that the war in heaven ended because Lucifer and his rebellious angels did not prevail against Michael and his heavenly hosts during the premortal war. When Lucifer was defeated, he and his followers were cast out of heaven on Kolob and they were cast down to this earth at the time of its physical creation. Lucifer’s death during the war in heaven is in the likeness of his future defeat in the battle of Armageddon at the Second Coming and the conditions of peace that will follow during the millennium.

John also identifies Lucifer, the great dragon, by three different names including that old serpent, the devil, and Satan. The serpent is an allusion to the garden of Eden where Eve was beguiled by Lucifer who spoke by the mouth of the serpent. His cunning and deceit brought about the fall of Adam. Each of the three names help to identify and define the characteristics by which Lucifer may be known on earth as he and his evil unembodied spirit sons of perdition continue to use their influence to destroy the souls of mortal men and women.
