St Augustine of Canterbury

St Augustine of Canterbury is considered the “Apostle to the English” and a founder of the English Church. He was a Benedictine monk who was asked by Pope St Gregory the Great to take his brother monks and to evangelise the British Isles. From there he was to become the first Archbishop of Canterbury. He spend eight years in England and on the 26 May 605, St Augustine died. He is the patron saint of England.
