On Memorial Day, Veterans Day and the Fourth of July, we are frequently reminded that freedom is never free. It has been purchased dearly, since 1776, by the sweat, blood and sacrifice of the men and women who don the American uniform. Many brave Service members have been called upon to give their last full measure of devotion in defense of this freedom we love so dearly - and today The St. Charles County Corespondent covers the sacrifice made by Jared Schmitz, from St Charles County, who was killed in Afghanistan only a few days ago.
