Get ready for an amazing adventure as we explore the incredible life of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, the first American saint!
Frances had big dreams and a heart full of courage. She spent much of her early life helping out at orphanages all across Italy.
Frances dreamed of being a missionary in China, but the Pope asked her to go to New York City instead. This was a BIG ask, since Frances had a lifelong fear of water and the trip would require her to sail across the ocean. But she braved the seas obediently, setting sail with the sisters!
When they arrived things didn't exactly go smoothly. The place they planned to start an orphanage wasn't ready. But even when things looked tough, Frances never lost hope.
She worked hard and finally built the orphanage she dreamed of, plus many more! Over 35 years, she founded 67 institutions dedicated to helping the poor, abandoned, uneducated, and sick.
And, remember how Frances was afraid of water? Guess what–God gave her tons of bravery, and she ended up crossing the ocean more than 30 times to help others throughout her life! How amazing is that?!
Let's celebrate Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, a true hero whose faith and love show us how to make the world a better place
