Early Life and Franciscan Calling

Saint James of the Marche, born Dominic Gangala in 1394, hailed from Monteprandone in the Marche region of Italy. From a young age, Dominic showed a deep spiritual inclination and a desire for a life dedicated to God. He joined the Franciscans in 1416, taking the name James. His commitment to the Franciscan ideals of poverty, humility, and service became evident early in his religious life.


Dedication to Preaching and Reform

James was ordained a priest and quickly gained a reputation as a powerful and eloquent preacher. His sermons attracted large crowds, and he was known for his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His preaching focused on repentance, the love of God, and the importance of living a virtuous life. James traveled extensively throughout Italy and other parts of Europe, tirelessly preaching the Gospel and calling people to conversion.


Crusader Against Heresy and Social Issues

James of the Marche also dedicated himself to combating heresy and addressing social issues of his time. He worked to reform the morals of the clergy and laity, often speaking out against corruption, usury, and other social injustices. Death and Canonization

Saint James of the Marche died on November 28, 1476, in Naples, Italy. His life of unwavering faith, dedication to preaching, and commitment to social reform earned him widespread respect and admiration. He was canonized by Pope Benedict XIII in 1726, and his feast day is celebrated on November 28th.
