St Joseph Cafasso was born on the 15 January 1811 in Italy. He was born with a deformed spine and into a wealthy peasant family, he was short in stature and crippled throughout his life. Joseph was known as a professor of moral theology, as a renowned confessor, a minister to condemned prisoners and a friend and advisor of St. John Bosco. He died on the 23 June 1860 in the city of Turin, Italy and was canonised in 1947 by Pope Pius XII. He is the patron saint of prisoners and prisons.
