Ness Sandoval, Saint Louis University Professor of Demography & Sociology, joins Megan Lynch in-studio. He took a look at the demographics of the St Louis region starting in the 1970s. 'We should still be a top-20 region,' size-wise, says Sandoval, but we, 'don't have enough babies born to offset the number of deaths,' and the people leaving the region. 'We have aged in place,' says Sandoval, pointing out that, 'the ninth oldest region in the country.'
He says if this trend doesn't change, the region will have to reorganize around providing services to an elder-focused population.
