Environmental Echo with PWGC's Paul K. Boyce

St. Patrick's Cathedral Geothermal System

Listen Later

PWGC designed a state-of-the-art geothermal heating and cooling system—the largest municipal system of its kind to date—for the renovation of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in NYC. Replacing its previous system of steam radiators and 1960s-era air conditioning, the cathedral now has a perimeter of 10 wells as deep as 2,200 feet into the Manhattan bedrock, collecting groundwater that helps the church efficiently heat and cool. The Archdiocese ultimately selected a geothermal system due to its many significant benefits over a conventional HVAC system including the lowest first, long-term operations and maintenance costs. Join host Paul K. Boyce, PE, PG, President/CEO and his special guests, Jeff Murphy, FAIA and Partner at Murphy, Burnham & Buttrick Architects and Tom Newbold, PE, CEM, CGD, LEED at Landmark Facilities Group, Inc, as they discuss this award winning topic.
