St Thomas More

St Thomas More was born on the 7 February 1478. in London, England. He is well-known for opposing King Henry VII on the matter of royal divorce, and refused to swear the Oath of Supremacy which declared the king the head of the Church in England. He was imprisoned in the Tower of London and martyred for his refusal to bend his religious beliefs to the king‘s political needs. Thomas was beheaded on the 6 July 1535 and his feast day is on the 22 June. He was canonised in 1935 by Pope Pius XI and is the patron saint for difficult marriages.
