STALKER 2 Goes Gold After 14-Year Development

Listen Later

STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl has officially gone gold, marking the completion of its development cycle after a tumultuous 14-year journey. The game was first announced in 2010 with a planned release in 2012, but it faced numerous delays and challenges. These included the dissolution of the developer, GSC Game World, in 2011, followed by the studio's resurrection in 2014. The game was re-announced in 2018 and later revealed at Xbox's E3 showcase in 2021 with a planned release in April 2022, which was subsequently delayed several times. The development was further disrupted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, affecting the lives of the developers and forcing the studio to halt work temporarily. Despite these setbacks, including a significant office fire in 2023, the team persisted and has now finalized the game for release. The term 'gone gold' indicates that the game's master copy is ready for mass production, and there will be no further delays before its launch on November 20, 2024.
