Wherever you stand on environmental issues, it's clear that we're told what to think by politicians, scientists, and armchair activists. What they say might be true, but think about it: when was the last time your senator backpacked through the Rockies? How often do researchers step away from simulations and figures to go kayak down the Brazos? Has your buddy Eric ever stopped tweeting for long enough to go bouldering? My name is Ryan Gates, and I'm an avid hiker, backpacker, and environmental advocate. In each episode of "Stand For What You Stand On", I sit down with a new outdoor enthusiast - someone who actually hikes the trails and bags the peaks - to talk about the environmental issues that impact the land we love so much, from climate change, to land management, to materialistic overconsumption. Gary Snyder put it best: "Find your place on the planet. Dig in, and take responsibility from there." Join me as I talk with the environmentalists who have found their place outdoors!</p>
