There's an old proverb, borrowed from one of our holiest writings, that all geeks know well: "As sure as day follows night," it says, "sure as eggs is eggs, sure as every odd-numbered Star Trek movie is shit". Section 31 is technically "Star Trek 14," so we should have a winner. Unfortunately, it doesn't suit the pattern. That's possible because this direct-to-Paramount+ special never seems like a film. It's more analogous to the double TV episodes they used to put together for VHS distribution, albeit it falls well short of the greatest of them. Section 31 lacks the funding and onscreen presence to merit the "film" designation.
