The stint was not long after their successful expansion into China. Over-confident executives decided to draft and implement expansion plans, which soon diminished in 2008 with the closure of the majority of their stores. Starbucks’s expansion into Australia clearly wasn’t successful like their expansions to other developed countries had. Why? For one, they thought Australia was westernized enough to accept them instantly. Next was their rapid pace of expansion. So much so that by 2008, it had 90 stores across the country – but where was the popularity? Finally, Australians were already accustomed to Coffee – they were enjoying a range of choices from Greek and Italian immigrants. It was the lack of exploration, market study, and buyer persona building that led to this failure. On the other hand, they had already succeeded in China. Because their ascent into the Chinese market was meticulous and calculated. Lesson Learnt. It is extremely important to identify the preferences of your target market before you launch your product. Never put the cart before the horse! Thank you for tuning in this is Priya Signing off Until next time!    Bye!
