Can you see His miracles? On the surface, today’s gospel reading can be a bit upsetting. What does it mean when it says, “...he was not able to perform any mighty deed there...”? Is the gospel telling us that Jesus lost His ability to perform miracles? No— definitely not. Jesus was unable to get through to the hearts of those people. They had preconceived ideas of who they thought Jesus should be. They relied on impressions and memories formed at an earlier time and used them to put Jesus in a box. They expected Him to do certain things and act in a certain way. They refused to acknowledge the man Jesus had become or His mission. That is why Jesus could not to perform miracles there. It was not because Jesus had no ability; it was because of the peoples’ pride in their own opinions. They were blind to His message. How often do we behave like the people in Jesus’ hometown? When we pray, do we get so focused on what we want God to do that we are blinded to what He actually is doing? God knows what desires are in our heart. We must trust in Him. Our prayer to our Father says, “...thy will be done...” not MY will be done. Let God out of the box and let Him work in His way.
