Show Summary

Imagine bypassing the total sales process and having your ideal customers coming to you. By building your personal brand you are transforming yourself into the go-to guru in your field. Today we’re going to share some tips on building a personal brand.

Connect

People want to connect with a brand. People want to know somebody cares about them. By positioning your personal brand this way it will help people connect with you.

Have an about me page, start signing all your emails, start posting and sharing your image and getting people to connect with you. Embrace that you are an expert in your field but think of all the things you didn’t know when you first started. Those are your customers.

80/20 Rule

In social media, 80 percent of your posts need to connect with the audience and only 20 percent should be selling what you do. Put your customer first and be their advocate. They will come to you when they are ready. Don’t worry about selling to them. Connect and let them know you know what their problems are and how you can solve them.

Get a Professional Headshot

When it comes to your personal brand it’s imperative to have a great picture of you. It doesn’t have to be a glamour shot, but mybe show something in action. If you are on the radio it could be you in front of a microphone. It’s about health it could be you outdoors doing something healthy.

Be Discoverable Online

Set up a Facebook business page and start posting there. Set up other social media pages, register your domain name and get out there. Don’t hide; you want people to be able to discover you. Once they start learning your name that is your brand and they will start searching for you so make sure you’re able to be found.

Write Down Your Professional Purpose

We all got into business for a reason. But what makes you get out of bed every morning? Why do you do what you do? What are you passionate about? That’s most likely the business you are in. Who are you serving? Get a focus on that. When building a professional brand that’s important.

Self-Awareness

Have self-awareness of what you know and what you have yet to learn. You’re an expert in your field but practice some empathy. You are going to find there are some things you don’t know so if someone comes up with a question you don’t know you don’t have to be a know it all you can easily say that’s a great question I’m going to research and get back to you.
