This is Seritta and welcome to the Moms for Christ podcast. One hope that I have is that whatever I teach my children about Jesus and the hope we have in Him, it will stick with them. My hope is that as they go through different stages of their lives, they will never forget what it looks like to be steady in Christ regardless of their circumstances, and they will value God's will and take it on as their own will.Moses in the Book of Exodus has been on my heart lately. To save his life as a baby, his mother put him in a tightly woven basket and sent him floating in the river where the Pharaoh’s daughter discovered him. It was his own sister who suggested that she would find someone to nurse the baby, and brought him back to live with his own mother. "...God cared and answered her prayers." It was not a coincidence that he was drawn from the water and saved by Pharaoh's daughter. And it was not a coincidence that he was taught about his own culture and his God as opposed to the Egyptian gods at a young age. Even after running off to live in another land - and starting his own family in that land - Exodus chapter 2 says he still considered himself a foreigner in a foreign land.Moses could not deny his identity. Proverbs 22 verse 6 says, “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”When our children are young, this is the time to immerse them in the good things of God - to show them God's loyalty and how much He cares. Our hope is that our children will become faithful and return this love and loyalty to the Lord in all they do. "Jesus Christ is my Lord - my life source..." I always talk to my daughters about when they were born. I tell each of them how God's people, the church, prayed and Jesus helped them with their different needs as newborn babies. I show them their newborn baby pictures, and tell them how I was happy to see them, and so happy for what God had done - that God was so good and is still so good. When they get to do things they like, I tell them how God allowed for them to enjoy that moment, and I'm so happy they could enjoy that moment also. I recall Jordynn turning 3 years old and only wanting to go to the park. But it was such a cold winter she wasn't able to go. But on her third birthday in the middle of winter, the weather became unusually warm, and she was able to go to the park that day and saw some friends there. And now it’s a few years later but I still remind her of that day and tell her how God cared and answered her prayers. I let them see that I won't let the need for God become a small factor in my life. "God wants His people to have a desire and passion for Him." As parents we are the most important figure in our children's lives. Like when a baby is dependent on the milk from its mother - even as a newborn the baby knows its mother is their life source. So as I claim Jesus Christ is my Lord - my life source - I have to walk in full faithfulness all the time, not just sometimes. My hope is that they will see and get to know who Jesus is, and not view Him as an outsider in their own lives but the very reason why we exist and can look forward with great hope. God wants His people to have a desire and passion for Him. All of Moses’ life, he was being prepared for what God had in store for Him to do. Moses was so aware of who he was that even though he w...
