Matthew S. Newman has been in the financial services industry since 1997. Matthew thinks that the job of the financial advisor is to be there when things are bad; to give families good news during the deepest and darkest of times & to have a true plan in place prior to the bad. Matthew was diagnosed with Grade Three Brain Cancer at 39 years old. His father-in-law Larry was fighting Pancreatic Cancer, he had three children under 5, and life changed instantly. Knowing all his basic planning was done allowed him to take on the battle at hand and avoid regret and resentment. Lying in a hospital bed prior to brain surgery, he realized every speech he had ever given on the need for planning in advance of the bad was actually about him! Matthew’s catharsis became writing. He started seeing life through a new set of lenses and began sharing his new understanding of the realness and fragility of life; his change in perspective; and the value of living in the moment and appreciating the now. These were gifts he had taken from cancer and would never give back. This was his journey, he owned it; cancer was just along for the ride. This led to him writing his memoir, “Starting At The Finish Line,” which chronicles the journey that he and his entire family took together which got him to a place of clarity, understanding, and appreciation. The book’s underlying message really exemplifies the necessity of why it’s important to get your financial planning in order; it is both inspirational and actionable. “Starting at the Finish Line,” became a best seller in a variety of categories on Amazon. It was named the top 2019 Unlimited Kindle Biography/Memoir by Book Riot, and the 2nd Best Brain Cancer Book ever written by Book Authority, and many more. He did a podcast with ESPN, has done three TEDx Talks, and travels all over the country as a Keynote Speaker sharing his story and inspiring audiences on the necessity of planning and the appreciation of life. He also speaks to sales teams, organizations, financial advisors, and more on main stages and webinars on ways to connect deeper with clients and prospects through realness and purity; this will drive revenue and referrals. His dedication to being a top performer at everything he does has led him to become number one in sales in his profession for over twenty years, while also fighting cancer. What drives him is his family; his wife Rebecca and his three children Luke, Jake, and Lola; his passions are fitness, sports, and raising money for charities to BEAT BRAIN CANCER! Matt is an ambassador for Head for the Cure.
