Taka Taka Zero is a Nairobi-based social enterprise dedicated to addressing waste management, youth unemployment, and food insecurity in Kenya's informal settlements. The organisation employs innovative technology to convert non-recyclable waste into sustainable energy, which is then used to cook food and boil water. This process not only cleans communities but also provides employment opportunities for local youths and supplies affordable food to residents.
The initiative is supported by Enactus Durham, a student-led team from Durham University, and has been recognised for its impact, winning the UK & Ireland Champions for Social Entrepreneurship title in 2024.
