In this continuation in our series for startup digital marketing strategies, we further discuss strategies for building links, awareness and brand visibility online. Building a brand online is not an easy feat, but doing it with some of these basic tactics in mind should make the process at least a bit more painless.
To be a successful marketer today, you need to constantly be on the lookout for new and innovative ways to get your message in front of potential clients. This is achievable even as an individual through programs like Google Adwords where you can set up an ad at a low cost and keep track of how it performs over time. The key with this type of advertising is efficacy - does your campaign result in any clicks? When investing money into something, it's important that we see some return on our investment.
PPC advertising, which is most commonly seen on Google and Facebook, is one particularly cost-effective method of gaining exposure and driving traffic back to your site. You basically create an ad, set a "bid" price that you're willing to pay every single time someone clicks your ad (which ranges from $0.25 per click), then pay that amount whenever somebody clicks your advertisement.
Google ranks sites based on a combination of two broad categories; Relevance and Authority. Relevance is how closely the content of a page is going to meet a user's needs and expectations; for example, if the user asks a question, Google wants to find a webpage that answers it. Authority is a measure of how trustworthy or authoritative the source of the content is. It could come from your friends who you trust more than others, or through sources such as websites or blogs that have been around longer with proven track records for accuracy.
If you're an entrepreneur and have never built a website before, technical factors like meta titles, site structure, and XML sitemaps can seem intimidating. But the reality is that SEO is more learnable than most people give it credit for. A novice will get different results than someone with years of experience, but even if you don't know what each term means yet—here they are:
-Meta Titles : Title tags should be unique on every post and page so that the search engine crawler knows where to find content relevant to specific keywords. This tag is also used as a placeholder when browsers load a webpage without any other information about that page.
-Site Structure: Structuring your site in a hierarchy helps visitors better navigate through your pages while also optimizing your website for Google's algorithm; this way it will be easier to rank higher in SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages).
Don't rush into your brand decision; this name is likely what you're going to be stuck with for a long time, so spend some time really perfecting it.
The perfect branding process takes time and consideration - don't settle for anything less than the best!
