StartUp – Friday June 10, Romans 2:25-29

Listen Later

Hi Passionate Youth Reaching Out, today is Friday June 10.  My name is Grant and this is Start Up, helping you start your day with an upward focus. Today’s podcast looks at living life as an authentic Christian.
Romans 2:25–29 (HCSB)
25 For circumcision benefits you if you observe the law, but if you are a lawbreaker, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. 26 Therefore if an uncircumcised man keeps the law’s requirements, will his uncircumcision not be counted as circumcision? 27 A man who is physically uncircumcised, but who fulfills the law, will judge you who are a lawbreaker in spite of having the letter of the law and circumcision. 28 For a person is not a Jew who is one outwardly, and true circumcision is not something visible in the flesh. 29 On the contrary, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart—by the Spirit, not the letter. That man’s praise is not from men but from God.
Some of you might be asking, “What is circumcision?”, which is a question that I’ll leave to your parents to answer.  But I will talk about what is the point of circumcision.  It was meant to be the prime mark of jewish identity, a a sign of a commitment to keep God’s laws.
What do you think is more important though, having a symbol of faithfulness to God, or living out a life of faithfulness to God.  What if we put it this way, is it better to wear a T Shirt that says, “I love Jesus” or to live a life of obedience that demonstrates your love of Jesus.  Obviously, the answer is that it is better for your life to demonstrate your love.
We don’t just want to be Christians on the outside, we want to be Christian on the inside as well.  When people are watching you, be a Christian.  When no one is watching you, be a Christian.  Live your life knowing that God is watching you, and that God is with you and that God is helping you.  Ask God to shape the way that you think and the way that you live.  Let your heart be a sign to God of your faith in Jesus Christ.
Your Challenge for this week is to encourage someone with a written note.  The words that you write will last, and can be used to help that person now and in the future.  I want to add on to that challenge today by encouraging you to pray for that person that you have written your note to.
