StartUp – Friday June 17, Romans 3:27-31

Listen Later

Hi Passionate Youth Reaching Out, today is Friday June 16.  My name is Grant and this is Start Up, helping you start your day with an upward focus. Today we take a look at boasting, does it belong in your life.
Romans 3:27–31 (HCSB)
27 Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By one of works? No, on the contrary, by a law of faith. 28 For we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. 29 Or is God for Jews only? Is He not also for Gentiles? Yes, for Gentiles too, 30 since there is one God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith. 31 Do we then cancel the law through faith? Absolutely not! On the contrary, we uphold the law.
A law of faith excludes boasting.  That means if you are professing to live your life by faith in Jesus Christ, boasting is excluded from your life.  Or put it another way, if your claim to real life and salvation is all based on Jesus, then you have nothing about your self to boast about.
According to google, boast means to “talk with excessive pride and self-satisfaction about one’s achievements, possessions or abilities.”  I don’t want people to see what I can do, I want them to see what God can do.  I don’t want people to see my wisdom or abilities, I want them to see God’s wisdom and God’s abilities in my life.
An excellent way for you to put God on display in your life is by upholding his laws.  Live and learn what Jesus has taught.  God’s ways are right.  God’s ways are the best.  When you live God’s ways, there is a wisdom beyond your own that guides your life.  When you trust Jesus teaching, even when its hard and unpleasant, he can use your obedience to show you and this world His goodness, and his power.  Don’t boast about the things that you can do, instead live your life to tell the story of the amazing power and wisdom of God as he works in and through your life.
Your challenge for this week is to start a Prayer Journal.  Write down your prayers to God, and then throughout the summer, go back through your journal and make note of the ways that God answers your prayers.
I want to invite all students in Grades 6-12 to our year end event on Friday June 24.  It is a School’s Out Sports Party at McMahon Stadium.  You will have a chance to play some games on the field and also to hear from some Christian athletes. The cost is 2 dollars.
