StartUp – Friday May 6, 2016

Listen Later

Good Day Passionate Youth Reaching Out, today is Friday May 6, 2016.  My name is Grant and this is Start Up, helping you start your day with an upward focus.
Today’s scripture is 2 Corinthians 5:17–21 (HCSB)
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come. 18 Everything is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed the message of reconciliation to us. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, certain that God is appealing through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf, “Be reconciled to God.” 21 He made the One who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
This week’s startup has focused on baptism every day.  Today we are taking a look at the “New Creation” that is symbolized in baptism.  Remember, baptism is being dunked in water to show that your old self under the rule of sin have been put to death, and then when you come up out of the water in symbolizes that you have a new life under the rule of Jesus.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says it so clearly, “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come.”  We have been saved from God’s wrath against our sin by Jesus, who died in our place, and now we are made right with God.  In this way, Baptism is a sort of commissioning for us as God’s church to bring that message of new life through Jesus Christ to a world of people who are headed towards the wrath of God that is justifiably there because of their sin.
Here is the good news that we need to share with others.  Jesus has already taken the punishment for sin.  Therefore, repent of your sins, asking Jesus for forgiveness, and be made right with God, no longer in fear of his wrath.
This week’s challenge is a big one, and so its going to be the same each day.  If you haven’t been baptized yet, I challenge you to be baptized.  It is something that Jesus asks all of his followers to do, and it will put you on record as being identified with Jesus Christ.  Our church is holding a Baptism service on June 5, its a great time to obey Jesus in being baptized.
Tonight is the first youth event of the year that the Grade 6 students are invited to attend.  SO all students in Grades 6-10 are invited to come a night of Games themed around Hungry Hungry Hippos.  The event is at Hawkwood Baptist Church from 7 – 9:30.  We will also be doing a Bible study on purity.
