Hi, Passionate Youth Reaching Out, today is Monday, August 8, My name is Grant and this is StartUp, helping you start your day with an upward focus. Today we look at the question, “If God is for us, who is against us?”
Romans 8:31–32 (HCSB)
31 What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He did not even spare His own Son but offered Him up for us all; how will He not also with Him grant us everything?
Paul is making some remarkable statements about God which give us uncompromising confidence in his ability to carry out his plan of salvation in our life and in the world. The first statement reads, “If God is for us, who is against.” We know that there are still many who are against us, most specifically Satan and his demons. It is the goal of hell to steal, kill and destroy every bit of God’s life in us. What Paul is saying here though is that the forces of evil are no match for God’s power. And if God’s power is on display in our lives, then nothing that comes against us will prosper or succeed. God is too strong and too good to let that happen.
A proof of God’s extreme love and power is how God so generously offered up his own son for us all. The word that “offered” is the same one that is used in the book of Genesis when Abraham was willing to offer up his son in a sacrifice to God. Ultimately, Abraham’s son did not have to die, God provided a better sacrifice. But in the case of God’s own son, Jesus was not spared. Jesus was put to death on our behalf. By God’s power, Jesus was raised to life.
Think about, if God would offer up his own son for us all, will he not grant us every other good thing that he has promised to do? Surely he will, and surely he is able to do everything that he says that he will do.
In the chorus of Chris Tomlin’s song, “Our God” we sing this truth, “And if Our God is for us, then who could ever stop us, And if our God is with us, then what can stand against? Praise God for his power and his love. Our God is greater and stronger than any other force that this world will ever know.
Challenge
My Challenge for you this week is to make a list of the forces that you are aware of that are coming against you in life. Because we know that God is stronger and greater than these forces, go to God in prayer, believing that his power is more than enough to bring about his victory in your life. Then trust it all to him, and whatever the outcome may be, know that God will use it for your good.
