StartUp – Monday July 25, Romans 8:3-4

Listen Later

Hi Passionate Youth Reaching Out, today is Monday, July 25, My name is Grant and this is Start Up, helping you start your day with an upward focus. Today’s passage carries on the theme of “no condemnation for those who are in Jesus”.
Romans 8:3–4 (HCSB)
3 What the law could not do since it was limited by the flesh, God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending His own Son in flesh like ours under sin’s domain, and as a sin offering, 4 in order that the law’s requirement would be accomplished in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
The law of God was limited in its ability to save us, by ourselves.  Humans, and more specifically, the Nation of Israel, showed that we can’t obey the law.  We needed God’s help, and so God himself condemned sin by sending Jesus to earth as a sin offering, doing for us what we couldn’t do for ourselves.
A sin offering in the Old Testament was what you gave to God if you either sinned unintentionally or unavoidably.  Paul is saying that mankind has sinned unavoidably, we were unable to live out God’s laws and now a sin offering had to be made.  Because we couldn’t do it on our own, Jesus was sent as God’s representative to earth to do it for us.  His death is the condemnation of sin, and so now the law of God is accomplished by God.
Here is the summary, we unavoidably have broken God’s law and are unable to use that law to condemn and execute the sentence on sin.  But God is fully able, and powerful to condemn and execute the sentence on sin.  Jesus death on the cross it is a death blow to sin. So now, don’t live under the law trying to beat sin yourself, but live your life with the Power of God to live for his Glory and trust God to have the victory over sin.
Challenge
My challenge for you this week is to use what we are learning from Romans to help you write out your testimony.  Its your story of what God has done in your life.  Aim for 3-5 paragraphs and let Paul’s teachings shape how you write.  You don’t have to talk like he talked, but use the way that he thinks and explains things to help you think through and explain what God has done in your life.  I would love to see your testimony, let me know when you complete this challenge.
