StartUp – Monday June 13, Romans 3:1-4
Hi Passionate Youth Reaching Out, today is Monday June 13. My name is Grant and this is Start Up, helping you start your day with an upward focus.
Romans 3:1–4 (HCSB)
1 So what advantage does the Jew have? Or what is the benefit of circumcision? 2 Considerable in every way. First, they were entrusted with the spoken words of God. 3 What then? If some did not believe, will their unbelief cancel God’s faithfulness? 4 Absolutely not! God must be true, even if everyone is a liar, as it is written: That You may be justified in Your words and triumph when You judge.
The Jewish people did have a huge advantage over the rest of the world. The nation of Israel had heard the audible voice of God. A specific example of this is at Mount Sinai were God spoke the 10 Commandments, you can read about it in Exodus 20. Thunder and Smoke enveloped the mountain, and the people were pretty scared, then a voice like trumpets spoke to them. That experience was passed down through the generations, and the words and promises of God were recorded.
But the nation of Israel was not able to obey what God had commanded them. Does their disobedience put a stain on God’s character? No, instead it give God a chance to show his kindness, patience and forgiveness. God had a plan of salvation ready for the entire world, Jesus would come and obey every word of God the Father, and his life and death would make it possible for each person who believes to experience the benefit of every single one of God’s promises.
We can take strength in the fact that God will only speak the truth. His word never changes. All who have access to God’s word, and the promises in his word have a considerable advantage in this world. And even when see ourselves falling down and sinning, God will remain true to his promises to show kindness, patience and forgiveness to us through Jesus Christ.
Your challenge for this week is to start a Prayer Journal. Write down your prayers to God, and then throughout the summer, go back through your journal and make note of the ways that God answers your prayers.
I want to invite all students in Grades 6-12 to our year end event on Friday June 24. It is a School’s Out Sports Party at McMahon Stadium. You will have a chance to play some games on the field and also to hear from some Christian athletes. The cost is 2 dollars.
