StartUp – Thursday, April 28 2016

Listen Later

Good Day Passionate Youth Reaching Out, today is Thursday April 28, 2016.  My name is Grant and this is Start Up, helping you start your day with an upward focus.
The Scripture today is Hebrews 12:3–11 (HCSB)
3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, so that you won’t grow weary and lose heart. 4 In struggling against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: My son, do not take the Lord’s discipline lightly or faint when you are reproved by Him, 6 for the Lord disciplines the one He loves and punishes every son He receives.
7 Endure suffering as discipline: God is dealing with you as sons. For what son is there that a father does not discipline? 8 But if you are without discipline—which all receive —then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we had natural fathers discipline us, and we respected them. Shouldn’t we submit even more to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time based on what seemed good to them, but He does it for our benefit, so that we can share His holiness. 11 No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however  r, it yields the fruit of peace and righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
What would happen in your life if you considered difficult situations to be God lovingly training you?  I think that it would redeem the hard times, letting you know that your suffering isn’t being wasted.
A loving parent won’t put their children through hard times without a good reason in mind.  Instead, parents use challenges in their children’s lives to help them develop character and maturity.
If a child never ever had a difficult situation because their parents were constantly sheltering them, what kind of a person would that kid grow up to be?
God loves us, and if we are Jesus’ followers then God considers us to be his children.  He isn’t going to shelter us from every kind of pain in the world, instead he will lovingly help us to walk through suffering so that we can grow and mature and learn to see his goodness, even in tough situations.
The Challenges for this week all centre around prayer.  Today I challenge you to thank God for a difficult situation in your life.  Ask him to lead you through it and to help you mature as a Christian.
All students in Grades 7-12 are invited to a special youth event beginning at 7 this Friday night, “Where’s Nathan” is the name of a scavenger hunt for people at a nearby Mall.  We will start and end the event at Hawkwood Baptist Church.
