StartUp – Thursday June 2

Listen Later

Good Day Passionate Youth Reaching Out, today is Thursday June 2. My name is Grant and this is Start Up, helping you start your day with an upward focus.
Your heart plays a very important role in the trajectory of your life. In this passage we see God’s response to ungrateful hearts.
Romans 1:18–25 (HCSB)

18 For God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth, 19 since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what He has made. As a result, people are without excuse. 21 For though they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became nonsense, and their senseless minds were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles. 24 Therefore God delivered them over in the cravings of their hearts to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served something created instead of the Creator, who is praised forever. Amen.
This is a hard passage to hear, but it is very useful information that we need. Verse 18 says that God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against those who push away and hide God’s truth. God’s creation points back to him as creator, and this passage makes it clear that to believe anything else will get you into some serious trouble.
The key verse here is 24, “Therefore God delivered them over in the cravings of their heart…” We begin to get a glimpse of how important the heart is. We are told elsewhere in the Bible that where your treasure is, there your heart will also be. The people in this passage had a treasure that would ultimately guide their heart and lives to destruction. What does your heart crave? What do you long for? Most of need to admit that at some level, we are longing for things that are against God. The good news is that we can ask him and trust him to mould and shape our hearts so that we can crave what is good and right.
This weeks challenge involves taking a prayer walk around your neighbourhood. However, I realize that Jonas lives out in the country. But I’m still challenging Jonas to take a walk and pray, you just might not be able to be in front of your neighbours house as you pray for them. But still, Ask for God’s Kingdom to come and God’s will to be done in your neighbourhood, as it is in heaven.
