StartUp – Thursday May 12, 2016

Listen Later

Good Day Passionate Youth Reaching Out, today is Thursday May 12, 2016.  My name is Grant and this is Start Up, helping you start your day with an upward focus.
Today’s scripture is 1 Peter 2:9–10 (HCSB)
9 But you are a chosen race,    a royal priesthood,
a holy nation,   a people for His possession,
so that you may proclaim the praises
of the One who called you out of darkness
into His marvelous light.
10 Once you were not a people,
but now you are God’s people;
you had not received mercy,
but now you have received mercy.
It has always been God’s plan that God’s people would live in such a way that he would be praised.  What is that way that we should live, how can our lives bring God praise?  Lets look at some of the descriptions given in this passage.
We are called a “chosen race”.  This is not about ethnicity, instead it has to do with a group of people being chosen by God.  Peter, the author of this letter, is saying that those in the Church all have this one thing in common, God has chosen us as his treasured possession.
Secondly we are “a royal priesthood.”  It is a priests job to be holy and to offer sacrifices to God.  How does that look for us, his chosen people?  Picture a congregation who live their lives with righteousness and continually offer everything that they are to serve God.
Thirdly, we are a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that we may proclaim His praises.  Our faith cannot be silent, we praise God for transforming our lives from darkness to light.  Our lives and our relationships need to reflect this amazing transformation  The way that we treat others should cause them to praise God.  This takes peacemaking on our part, and we will always rely on the Jesus, the Prince of Peace, to help us and instruct us in making peace with others.
The Challenge for this week revolves around sexual purity.  I challenge you this week to set a goal for purity in your life, and then to tell your parents what that goal is.  Ask them to hold you accountable to it, and ask them to pray for you and to pray with you.
This weeks invitation is for all students in Grades 9-12.  This Friday night we are having a SR High youth event at Hawkwood Baptist Church.  Our game for the evening is Capture the Flag and our Bible study will be on purity.  The night begins at 7 and concludes at 9:30.
