Good Day Passionate Youth Reaching Out, today is Thursday May 26. My name is Grant and this is Start Up, helping you start your day with an upward focus.
When was the last time that somebody gave you advice and you ignored it? Could you imagine if Jesus himself was giving you an instruction, could you ignore what Jesus was teaching?
Today’s scripture is Luke 6:46–49 (HCSB)
46 “Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things I say? 47 I will show you what someone is like who comes to Me, hears My words, and acts on them: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the river crashed against that house and couldn’t shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears and does not act is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The river crashed against it, and immediately it collapsed. And the destruction of that house was great!”
We see here that the cost of ignoring Jesus teaching is tragic. Its a picture of a home built in a dried up river bed, and then the stormy season comes along with a flood, and it the house is utterly destroyed by the force of the water.
However, the one who obeyed Jesus teaching built there home on the rock, and even when the flood came, the house was built well and had a foundation that was bigger than the storm. That house survived.
The Bible doesn’t give us a perfect answer for every single situation in life. For example, it can’t give you all of the information that you need to pass your drivers exam. But the Bible does give you everything that you need to know to build your life on a solid foundation, so that life’s storms won’t break you down and destroy you.
The foundation is Jesus teachings, and you need God’s help to live them and understand them. The first thing that learn that we need to do is to make Jesus the Lord of our Life, repent of our own selfish ways and accept his instruction as the way that we will live. But remember, if you are going to call Jesus Lord, then you need to live by his teachings.
Here is this weeks challenge.
We have changed the name of our mentoring groups to D- Groups, (can you guess what the D stands for? Its Discipleship.) I’m challenging all youth to get involved with a D-Group this summer. This is a long term commitment to meet regularly, and to live your life for God’s glory. Each meeting involves Bible Study, Christian Thinking on Current Headlines and exploring and implementing your own strengths. I challenge you to contact me this week with the goal of joining a D-Group.
This Friday is our Grand Finale. We are having a laser tag maze set up in the sanctuary, combined with a lounge night in the youth room and a barbecue in our foyer. The night ends with a showing of the new Charlie Brown movie upstairs. We will also take some time in the night to make sure that you are all able to stay connected with the Church this summer. The night goes from 7-10 PM and is for students in Grades 6-12.
If you want to find out more about our youth group, you can find us online at hbcyouth.ca. We are also on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, just search for Hawkwood Youth.
