Hi Passionate Youth Reaching Out, today is Tuesday June 14. My name is Grant and this is Start Up, helping you start your day with an upward focus. Today we are focusing in on sin, and its selfish nature.
Romans 3:5–8 (HCSB)
5 But if our unrighteousness highlights God’s righteousness, what are we to say? I use a human argument: Is God unrighteous to inflict wrath? 6 Absolutely not! Otherwise, how will God judge the world? 7 But if by my lie God’s truth is amplified to His glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner? 8 And why not say, just as some people slanderously claim we say, “Let us do what is evil so that good may come”? Their condemnation is deserved!
There was a temptation to say, “Let us do what is evil so that good may come.” Paul didn’t want anyone to give into that way of thinking. I don’t want any of us to be tempted by that way of thinking. Sin should never be thought of as advantageous for any Christian. We should see sin for what it is, and avoid its seduction at all costs.
Sin is very selfish. Sin wants to steal and kill and destroy you. Sin is like a roller coaster that is guaranteed to end in disaster and loss of life, but only the thrill of the roller coaster are talked about. No one in their right mind would get on a roller coaster knowing that it would kill them, but they could easily be tricked into riding it if only the pleasures were advertised.
Don’t be deceived by sin. Don’t find ways to justify the wrong in your life. Instead, bring God glory by confessing your sin and asking for God’s forgiveness. Let him be glorified by redeeming your life, and saving you from the horrible outcome that sin wants for you.
Your challenge for this week is to start a Prayer Journal. Write down your prayers to God, and then throughout the summer, go back through your journal and make note of the ways that God answers your prayers.
I want to invite all students in Grades 6-12 to our year end event on Friday June 24. It is a School’s Out Sports Party at McMahon Stadium. You will have a chance to play some games on the field and also to hear from some Christian athletes. The cost is 2 dollars.
