StartUp – Tuesday May 24, 2016

Listen Later

Good Day Passionate Youth Reaching Out, today is Tuesday, May 24. My name is Grant and this is Start Up, helping you start your day with an upward focus.
Today’s scripture is 1 Corinthians 2:1–5 (HCSB)

1 When I came to you, brothers, announcing the testimony of God to you, I did not come with brilliance of speech or wisdom. 2 For I didn’t think it was a good idea to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 4 My speech and my proclamation were not with persuasive words of wisdom but with a powerful demonstration by the Spirit, 5 so that your faith might not be based on men’s wisdom but on God’s power.
Paul is reminding the corinthian church about why the trusted God with their lives. Their salvation was not a result of Paul using some sort of manipulation, or clever speech. Instead, Paul spoke plainly to them with the no embellishments to who God is, and what God had done to save them from a life of slavery to sin. The faith of the Corinthian church was based on God’s power, and not Paul’s wisdom.
What is your faith in God based on? Is your understanding based on who God is, as he describes himself in the Bible? Or is your faith based on someone else’s charisma and clever speech, were you manipulated with sweet words to become a Christian. I pray that your faith is built on truth, as revealed by God in his Bible, as God has given you the ability to understand.
A proper understanding of who God is so important to your life. No one wants to build their life on an unstable teaching or foundation. The Christian faith is one of confidence, because we have God’s revealed truth, and it makes the world make sense. God’s truth doesn’t need big personalities to be true. May all of our hope and trust in Jesus Christ be based on God’s power and truth alone.
The challenge for this week is to join a Mentoring Group. Our youth group has made mentoring groups available for all students in Grades 7-12. This is a long-term commitment to meet regularly, and to live your life for God’s glory. Each meeting involves Bible Study, Christian Thinking on Current Headlines and exploring and implementing your own strengths. I challenge you to contact me this week with the goal of joining a mentoring group.
This Friday is our Grand Finale youth event, for all students in Grades 6-12. If the weather is nice, then we will be having an Instagram photo scavenger hunt, barbecue and outdoor movie. If its cold and raining, we will be doing some of our favourite games inside, and then barbecue and movie. The night will run from 7-10 at Hawkwood Baptist Church.
If you want to find out more about our youth group, you can find us online at hbcyouth.ca. We are also on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, just search for Hawkwood Youth.
