Good Day Passionate Youth Reaching Out, today is Wednesday May 4, 2016. My name is Grant and this is Start Up, helping you start your day with an upward focus.
Today’s scripture is Romans 6:3–5 (HCSB)
3 Or are you unaware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in a new way of life. 5 For if we have been joined with Him in the likeness of His death, we will certainly also be in the likeness of His resurrection.
To be baptized is to be publicly identified with Jesus. Have you ever thought about how the act of baptism itself is sort of like a 2 part play, that symbolizes the death and resurrection of Jesus.
In Act 1, we see a person be laid down under the water, it is a picture of Jesus being laid down in death. In Act 2 we see that person being taken up out of the water, it is a picture of Jesus rising from the dead with a resurrected body.
When a person is baptized, they are saying that they are done with a life of sin, that sinful person that they once were has now been put to death, just as Christ was put to death for the sins of the world. In baptism, a person is saying that because of Jesus Christ, they have been raised from the dead by the glory of God so that they can now live in a new way of life.
Christian friends, we are no longer slaves to sin. We don’t have to do what sin tells us to do. Instead, we are living under the Rule of Jesus Christ, the saviour of the world, and we are able to live out the good news of being made right with God. Baptism is a play for the world to see and know that reality.
This week’s challenge is a big one, and so its going to be the same each day. If you haven’t been baptized yet, I challenge you to be baptized. It is something that Jesus asks all of his followers to do, and it will put you on record as being identified with Jesus Christ. Our church is holding a Baptism service on June 5, its a great time to obey Jesus in being baptized.
This Friday is the first youth event of the year that the Grade 6 students are invited to attend. SO all students in Grades 6-10 are invited to come a night of Games themed around Hungry Hungry Hippos. The event is at Hawkwood Baptist Church from 7 – 9:30.
